Our area of coverage is the Diocese of Wamba, situated in the Oriental Province of R.D. Congo. The Catholic Diocese of Wamba covers 68.000 Kms and a population about 600.000 inhabitants.

The “PYGMIES» population is estimated to be around 40.000 persons present in almost everywhere in 17 parishes of the diocese.

It is only by motorbikes that we have access to their camps due to the lack of viable roads.

Our work is « to support, encourage, control and organize » all the « local pastoral agents ». We also provide them with material support for their various initiatives.

But our work with the Pygmies requires a physical and mostly a spiritual approach:

love, dedication, esteem, otherwise all our effort will be fruitless and will not meet the goal of transforming the life of the pygmies!

If what we have said is true for the  “development and human Promotion Sectors”, it goes without saying that the “ Evangelization” of the Pygmies must not undermine this aspect, but rather, it has to be taken seriously into consideration. Our effort of presenting a true and accepted image of Christ, can only be successful if we have an empathetic, symbiotic and loving relationship towards the Pygmies

In our leaflet, dealing with the Pre-Catechism and Catechism for the Pygmies, we gave some main guidelines, referring to the Pygmies’ culture and some important biblical themes, for an “adaptation” of the Gospel message and its reception by Pygmies (cf. Brochure Pré- et Catechism aux PY –2000).

The Diocese of Wamba is structured in 17 Parishes. From Wamba Center eastward, we find Mangbele and Lingondo (the siege of the Minor Seminary) Maboma and Mungbere. With paths difficult to access, we continue towards Nduye and Mambasa; from here, with a trip, we go to Niania and Bafwasende, to return towards Wamba by crossing Bayenga. Towards the Western bank of Nepoko river (the river which intersects the entire Diocese), we find the Parishes of Bafwabaka, Obongoni, Babonde, Ibambi and Gombe, to finish with Legu and Pawa, near Isiro.
